I love myself for who I am

Year: 2010
Duration: 00:03:10

The video is part of the White Performances / Positive Affirmations series in which I use a feminist critical approach to highlight the absurdity of the constant quest for happiness and perfection. Repetitive statements that can be heard and read are parody to the power of suggestive thoughts from a popular self-help culture that creates an illusion of possible control over one’s own life and encourages obsessive engagement with oneself, with their own image, health and happiness. Mantras are accompanied by repetitive gestures, which represent small domestic tasks, which society (still) attaches to women, in which they are supposed to find self-fulfillment and personal satisfaction.
