War is Bussiness
Year: 2016
Type: Original woodcut
The work was produced at woodcut workshop at Vojna in mi(r) (War and Us/War and Peace) at Hiša kulture v Pivki. The topic of the workshop was war and its impact on our local society. I used a selection of web icons depicting symbols of war and warfare. Even though the war is not present in our immediate surroundings, our country actively participates in continuation of military conflicts in the world by being a member of Nato and by actively trade in arms. The absence of blood and tragedy and the omnipresence of aesthetization of violence (also by numerous designed images and symbols present on the web) and perverse economic interests are rendering our society insensitive towards all suffering which is not happening in front of our eyes.
Participating artist: Vesna Bukovec, Neža Jurman, Simon Kocjančič, Erik Mavrič, Nika Rupnik, Leon Zuodar
Curator: Mojca Grmek
The work is part of print portfolio Vojna in mi(r) which includes works of all artists participating at workshop. Edition of portfolio: 12.
